Education with Character

At Marylebone Academy, we understand that there is more to a good education than just academic success.  Exam passes are an important aspect of that. But there is more to a good education. Marylebone Academy aims to develop character, compassion and service. Young people are expected to contribute to their school and to society; to try things which they think they cannot do; to persist in the face of difficulty; to become resilient in overcoming obstacles; to manage themselves; to work independently on things which challenge them; to work with others and in teams; to be courageous and caring; to lead.

We want young people to look back on a joyful schooling which has inspired and challenged them, given them wide opportunity and prepared them for the ups and downs of life.

We are therefore committed to providing all our students with a broad and balanced curriculum as well as cultural and social experiences that broaden horizons and support the development of character.

Enrichment

We believe that education extends far beyond the classroom. Our enrichment programme plays a vital role in developing confident, well-rounded young people who are prepared to succeed at university, in their careers and in life.

Our enrichment programme supports this vision by encouraging students to:

  • develop confidence, resilience and leadership skills;
  • explore new interests and build on existing talents;
  • strengthen teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills;
  • increase their cultural capital through a wide range of experiences; and
  • become responsible, compassionate citizens who make a positive contribution to their communities.

Students benefit from an extensive programme of activities and opportunities throughout the year, delivered in a variety of ways.

After-school Clubs

Our enrichment programme runs after the school day, offering students a diverse range of activities, clubs and experiences designed to complement their academic learning. Activities change throughout the year, giving students the opportunity to explore new interests, develop skills and pursue their passions.

Alongside these opportunities, some students may also take part in academic extension or targeted intervention programmes, ensuring every learner receives the support and challenge they need to achieve their full potential.

Our enrichment programme timetable is communicated to parents at the start of each term.

Trips and Educational Visits

Learning is enhanced through educational visits, visiting speakers, workshops, careers events, competitive fixtures and dedicated drop-down days. These experiences bring learning to life and help students connect their classroom studies to the wider world.

Situated in the heart of central London, Marylebone Academy is uniquely placed to make the city an extension of the classroom. Students benefit from regular access to world-class museums, galleries, universities, businesses and cultural institutions.

Student Leadership

We believe that student leadership isn’t just for the select few, but for everyone. Our aim is to nurture a diverse community of confident, compassionate, and innovative female and male leaders who feel empowered to contribute and shape the world around them.

Through a range of opportunities in learning, enrichment, and service, all students are encouraged to develop their understanding of leadership and not only to succeed in college or university, but to thrive as leaders in an ever-changing world.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

All Year 9 students have the opportunity to undertake the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, with students in Year 10 able to progress to the Silver Award. This nationally recognised programme offers an excellent opportunity for personal development, encouraging students to step outside their comfort zones, embrace new challenges, and broaden their horizons beyond the classroom.

Through volunteering, physical activity, skill development, and expedition experiences, students cultivate important qualities including resilience, independence, teamwork, and self-confidence. The programme promotes commitment, hard work, and personal responsibility while encouraging students to make a positive contribution to their communities. The expedition element develops problem-solving skills, perseverance, and leadership, helping students build the character and integrity needed to succeed in education, employment, and life.
