Ancient and Modern Foreign Languages

Our languages curriculum develops confident, curious and independent linguists who can communicate effectively and engage with the wider world. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, students build secure knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation, enabling them to use the language with increasing accuracy and confidence.

Alongside developing their language skills, students explore the rich cultures, traditions and diversity of the French and Spanish-speaking worlds. By fostering cultural understanding, curiosity and respect for different perspectives, we prepare students to become globally aware citizens who appreciate the value of languages in connecting people and creating opportunities for the future.

We also teach a Latin curriculum in Key Stage 3 as a foundation for language learning, equipping students with a strong understanding of grammar, vocabulary and language structure that supports success in French, Spanish and beyond.
