English

English at Marylebone Academy equips students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to become thoughtful readers, articulate speakers and purposeful writers. Through the study of a rich and diverse literary canon, students develop the ability to analyse, question and communicate ideas with clarity while exploring the experiences, cultures and perspectives that shape our world.

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to build knowledge over time, enabling students to make meaningful connections between texts, genres and historical contexts. Students revisit and deepen key concepts throughout their journey, developing increasingly sophisticated understanding of language, literature and rhetoric.

The curriculum reflects both the principles of the United Learning English curriculum and the diverse community we serve. Students encounter literature that both reflects their own experiences and broadens their understanding of others, encouraging empathy, critical thinking and intellectual curiosity.
