Homework

At Marylebone Academy, homework and assessment play a vital role in supporting every student’s achievement.

Through ongoing formative assessment, teachers regularly check students’ understanding of the curriculum, identify next steps in learning and provide timely feedback to help them make strong progress. Homework is designed to consolidate classroom learning, encourage independent study and develop the knowledge, skills and habits needed for success both school and beyond.

How much homework will my child receive?

Depending on which Key Stage your child is in, they will receive the following homework:

30-45 mins per week, per subject for Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9)
45-60 mins per week, per subject for Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11)
Key Stage 5 - subject dependent and will be a combination of homework and independent study set to support students in their preparation for lessons ahead.

How is homework set and communicated?

Homework is set through the school’s online platform called Arbor and communicated by teachers. Students are expected to record homework deadlines and check regularly for updates.

How can I support my child with homework?

Encouraging regular study routines
Providing a quiet space for learning
Checking that homework is completed on time
Discussing what your child is learning
Encouraging reading at home

What happens if homework is not completed?

In Key Stage 3 and 4, if homework is not completed your child will sit a 30-minute detention. If your child repeatedly fails to submit homework over three occasions, this will be escalated to a 60-minute detention.

In Key Stage 5 a 60-minute detention is set for each piece of missed homework.
